Sammendrag

This article discusses the idea of seeing Melchizedek, Job, Balaam, Rahab, Ruth and Naaman «as holy outsiders», ethnically, geographically and/or religiously. And yet they played major roles in the Biblical narratives. The tensions with the otherwise strict borders between Israel and the Gentiles are discussed, partly also related to contemporary missiology. Within the overall Christian canon these «outsiders» appear as exceptions rather than representative. But even as exceptions, they belong to the overall picture given in the Bible.
