Abstract

This study examines young Norwegian Christians’ understanding of missions and the mission assignment. Surveys show that mission is important for this generation. This article explores how young Christians understand missions. 28 young Christians who volunteered in a Christian organisation aboard, are interviewed. The study shows that the interviewees are true to the tradition of understanding missions as “word and deed”. The contribution of this article is greater understanding of how they understand these terms and an analysis of how contemporary religious socialization characterizes their understanding. The findings show that the interviewees believe that showing love and being in social relationships is important, that missions happens everywhere and that they themselves are missionaries.
