Abstract

The Malaysian government prohibited the use of the word Allah for non-Muslims in 1981. This led to fierce protests from the Christians and resulted in several juridical proceedings that are yet to be finished. The article discusses the background for the prohibition, the following events and why the Christians protested the prohibition.
